Here's something that I thought was pretty cool. I came across a post that made mention of Google's timeline feature that I was unaware of. This is a pretty cool query that you can perform in Google that works something like this:
In a Google search bar perform a search using the following query string:
view:timeline
Example:
enquiro view:timeline
You can modify the timeline by filtering the dates. There are some cool features that you can select. For example you can click on "info view" to access results that you can show different option for your results such as:
Your search terms - highlights the query term you used in the results that are returned
Dates - filters results that may have a date associated with the result (think press releases and such)
Measurements - lists results that feature a period of time reference on the page
Locations - highlights geographic locations within the title or description of the results returned
Images - lists image found on your pages. Foreshadowing to what universal (or blended) search results could look like.
With each of these features you are presented with further options to refine your query. Pretty cool.
The timeline view presents a yearly timeline with a slider that you can use to view results from a particular year.
There is also an option for Map View where you can specify a search term and a Geo region such as "top restaurants in Kelowna".
I believe that this feature was launched in May of 2007... today was the first time I had seen it. It's just another example of some of the cool features that Google is working on that the masses may not yet be aware of.
