ASK Has New CEO: Out is Jim Lanzone In is Jim Safka
| Wednesday, January 09, 2008
||It has been a little quiet from our favorite search engine ASK lately that is until today when IAC (ASK's parent company) announced that Jim Safka has been appointed the new CEO of ASK.com effective immediately. Safka, 39, served as CEO of Match.com from 2004 to 2006.
This was a bit of a surprise as Jim Lanzone has been a great advocate of ASK and as IAC CEO Barry Diller stated:
"Jim Lanzone was the principal executive responsible for Ask.com's turnaround over the last two years. His passion for innovation and his every day dedication to the business and its people have been everything anyone could ask for," said Mr. Diller. "He is a superb executive and leader and I'm hopeful we can be associated in the future."In related news, Scott Garell has been named President of Ask.com, where he will report to Mr. Safka and manage daily business operations worldwide. Since 2005, Mr. Garell has been CEO of IAC Consumer Applications & Portals. Under his leadership the Consumer Applications and Portals businesses (including Fun Web Products, Portals, Evite and Pronto) have grown by 74% in the past 3 years.
It's interesting that both Safka and Garell were internal IAC people. Jim Lanzone was/is a great Search person as was evident by his great keynote at SES San Jose in August of 2007.
Good luck to both Mr. Lanzone and Mr. Safka.
