Microsoft Live Search: More Updates |
| Monday, October 29, 2007 |
Continuing with a bust month of change with their search product, Live Search announced additional upgrades on Monday. These updates include:
- Equivalencies - ie bio=biography, CA=California (why not Canada?). Working to improve the relevance of their search engine, the goal of this feature is to move past simple keyword matching, and into understanding the intent of the user's query.
- Intelligent “stop word” Retention - Live Search defines "stop words" as "...words that oftentimes may not contain much “meaning” in the query - words such as (a, the, in, etc…) and hence it may not be crucial as to whether they are found on the desired results page or not. " In their example they mentioned that there are certain instances when a "stop word" should not be dropped from the query such as if you were searching for the popular television show "The Office".
There is nothing over the top astonishing here, but this is a move forward to provide more relevant results on their search product... something that was long over due.
