On this day in 1994 IBM said it would halt shipments of Pentium computers because of a flaw in the Pentium chip. An issue of Electrical Engineering Times announced the "floating point" bug in the Pentium chip, which could produce mathematical errors. Intel officials admitted they had known about the flaw for some time but thought it so unlikely to cause problems that they did not disclose the problem, creating an uproar among computer users.
