Role of Social Networks in the B2B Marketplace |

Social networks are one of the fastest growing segments of the Internet. However, the importance of these social networks has yet to be fully realized in the B2B marketplace. According to a recent B2B study by Knowledgestorm Inc. and Universal McCann, 77% of respondents have little or no interaction with social networks. Does this mean that B2B buyers are anti-social? Well not really it just means that because social networks are still fairly new they have not been used as a means of gathering knowledge when searching for B2B solutions. Or it may be an indication that there is need for more B2B type social network sites. Of the social networks frequented by business and IT professionals, LinkedIn was listed as one of the favorites.
The benefit of social networking for B2B marketers is that social networks can be leveraged as a tool for business development and networking. There is definitely an opportunity to use social networks for knowledge sharing, collaboration and as a feedback mechanism. Further, networking through social network sites may also prove beneficial in troubleshooting efforts. As B2B marketers, if you haven't looked into social networking as part of your SEO strategies, you may be missing an opportunity to reach your audience and differentiate your company from the competition. |
